You’ve heard about the new Autodesk Construction Cloud Server, hosted in Australia, but do you know how to access it?  Do you want to know if accessing the Australian server will actually save you time?

Do you want to review the FAQ and Security.  , Read on!

First, Who can Access the server, and how?

BIM Collaborate Pro

If you have BIM Collaborate Pro, you will be using Workshared Cloud models, with multiple people accessing the Revit model, potentially from different locations.

DOCS

If you have AEC Collections, BUT NO BIM Collaborate Pro subscription, you will be using Revit Cloud models, with a single person accessing the Revit model.

But the good news is, you can create an Autodesk Construction Cloud Site for your company, on the Australian or US Server.

The Downsides

If you already have Autodesk Construction Cloud on the US Server, you can transfer your existing project files to your Australian Server, but not your projects.  This means, if you need to maintain previous file versions, current issues or folder permissions, you will want to keep the project on the US Server, for now.   Bridging does not currently support different regions

To learn more about Migrating Files using the Autodesk Replication Tool (ART) click the link below.

While your US Autodesk Construction Cloud > Home > Projects, will list your projects in BIM 360 and ACC, you will not see your projects hosted on the Australian Server, and vice versa.  Essentially this is not such a bad thing, if the reason you want to use the Australian server is for Data Sovereignty purposes.

Review the Regional Data Storage FAQ

Projects listed on US server Site include BIM 360 projects and other companies projects, but not projects on the Australian Site.

Projects listed on Australian server Site only include projects on the Australian Server

Access the Autodesk Construction Cloud Australian Site

Once you are ready to create your new site, got to the Autodesk Manage portal > All Products and Services, here is a link.

Then click Access, for either DOCS for AEC, or BIM Collaborate Pro.  In the following Window, choose a name for your account, and select Australia, for Where do you want you data hosted.

  1. Important Note, you will need to be an account admin.
  2. After you have created your site, follow the link in the welcome  email.
  3. We included AU as a suffix to our Australian Site, so as to easily identify it.
  4. Here is the address of the AU Site:  https://acc.apac.autodesk.com/projects

The Speed Test

Finally, we simply uploaded (Collaborate in the Cloud) the same modestly sized, 128Mb Revit project, to both the US Site and to the New Australian Autodesk Construction Cloud Site.

Upload times

US Site:  3 minutes 53 seconds

AUS Site:  2 minutes 37 seconds

Time Saved:  1 minute 16 Seconds

If you save 1/3 of the time you spend synchronising, over a year this is going to be a significant saving.
